Over twenty years ago, my husband Neil and I bought a dilapidated Victorian villa by the sea.
We thought turning it into a successful accommodation business would be straightforward.
It wasn't.
We poured everything we had into creating somewhere guests loved.
But building the business behind our hospitality was something else entirely.
Then the 2008 recession hit.
Bookings stopped.
For a while, I genuinely thought we'd lose everything.
That experience forced me to rethink what it really takes to build the business behind great hospitality.
Not by chasing more bookings.
Not by trying the latest tactic.
But by putting the right things in place, in the right order.
It transformed our business.
We became award-winning, consistently profitable and eventually sold at a premium.
