Hi, I'm Stephanie.
I didn't come to this work through a business degree or a marketing background.
I came to it the same way many accommodation owners do - buying a business, chasing a dream and discovering that running it was much harder than I ever expected.
Over twenty years ago, my husband Neil and I bought a dilapidated Victorian villa by the sea that had stopped trading.
We thought creating somewhere special to stay would be the hard part.
It wasn't.
We poured everything we had into restoring it. We created somewhere we were incredibly proud of. Guests loved staying with us.
But behind the scenes, the business wasn't working.
Like so many owners, we'd focused all our energy on the hospitality. We hadn't yet learnt how to intentionally build the business behind it.
Then the 2008 recession hit.
Bookings stopped almost overnight, and for a while I genuinely thought we were going to lose everything.
It forced me to stop looking for another marketing idea and see what was actually true.
The hospitality was never the problem.
That realisation changed everything.
Instead of simply working harder, I started intentionally rebuilding the business itself - piece by piece, in the right order.
We stopped relying on OTAs completely.
100% of our bookings came direct.
65% were repeat guests.
Profit quadrupled.
The business became award-winning.
We eventually sold it at a premium price.
But more than any of that - we finally had a life.
That experience changed the way I think about accommodation businesses forever.
For the past sixteen years, I've worked full-time with owners of established B&Bs, independent hotels and self-catering businesses all over the world.
